After graduating from the Liberal Art University in Japan in 2001, Uekawa moved to New York to become a contemporary artist and transferred to the City University of New York at Hunter. Two weeks later, 9/11 occurred. In 2004, Uekawa obtained a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, though thought of giving up due to financial reasons, but went on to a master’s program at the school. While in the school, Uekawa started her artist career at Kravets|Wehby Gallery in Chelsea, New York. As a part time student, Uekawa receives MFA from Hunter College, CUNY in 2008. Currently lives and works in Beacon, NY, and shows at Neumann Wolfson Art in Upper East Side, New York.
